The Multilevel (CEFR) exam and an online mock test

Multilevel is Uzbekistan's national English exam. It is run by the Knowledge and Skills Assessment Agency (UZBMB), and results are given as a CEFR level: B1, B2 or C1. One exam measures several levels, hence the name. Many people simply call it the cefr.

How the exam is built

SectionPartsQuestionsTime
Listening635~35 minutes + 10 minutes to transfer answers
Reading53560 minutes
Writing2 (3 tasks)3 texts60 minutes
Speaking4 (1.1, 1.2, 2, 3)8 answers~15 minutes
  • Listening: every recording plays twice. Choose a reply to a short line, fill gaps, match speakers to places, label a map, fill gaps from a lecture.
  • Reading: fill a gap with a word from the text, match short texts to statements, choose paragraph headings, TRUE / FALSE / NOT GIVEN and multiple choice. There is no extra time to transfer answers.
  • Writing (new format): one situation, two letters — an informal one to a friend (~50 words) and a formal one (120–150 words) — then a post for an online discussion (180–200 words).
  • Speaking (new format): a chime sounds before every answer. 1.1: three personal questions, 30 seconds each. 1.2: compare two pictures (45 seconds), then two more questions. Part 2: a picture and three questions, 1 minute to prepare, 2 minutes to talk. Part 3: a statement with points for and against; argue both sides, 1 minute to prepare, 2 minutes to talk.

Each section is scored from 0 to 75, and your level comes from the average of the four. There is no C2; the top level is C1.

How practice works on Karvon

  • 10 Listening and 10 Reading tests in the real exam's structure and timing. These multilevel practice tests are marked by computer: every question shows the right answer and the line that proves it.
  • 30 Writing sets in the new format. AI acts as your multilevel writing checker: a comment and an estimated score for each task.
  • 10 Speaking tests with the chime, timers and pictures. Your answers are recorded and marked by AI.
  • A full multilevel mock: all four sections in one sitting, about 2 hours 45 minutes. At the end you see an estimated level, each section's score and your weakest section.

Every score on Karvon is estimated. Only UZBMB gives an official result: Listening and Reading scores are converted separately for each test version.

Common questions

Are Multilevel and CEFR the same thing?

No. CEFR is the European scale of language levels (A1 to C2). Multilevel is an exam in Uzbekistan whose result is B1, B2 or C1 on that scale.

Is there a C2 in the Multilevel exam?

No. The top level is C1 (an average of 65–75).

Is my Karvon score the same as the official one?

No, it is estimated. It shows how ready you are, but it does not replace the official result.

Can I take the online mock on my phone?

Yes, on a phone or a computer. You need headphones for Listening and a microphone for Speaking. The full mock can't be paused, so find a quiet place.

Who marks my Writing?

AI. It looks at each task for topic, grammar, vocabulary and how well the text holds together, then gives a comment and an estimated score.
