Online English courses: no trip to a language centre
An online English course means studying on your phone or computer, when it suits you, without going to a language centre. This page covers how that differs from a centre, how to pick a good course, and who Karvon is for.
Language centre or online platform?
| Language centre | Karvon (online) | |
|---|---|---|
| Time | Fixed timetable | Any time, even 20 minutes a day |
| Place | Travel to the centre | A phone or computer is enough |
| Pace | The group's pace | Your own pace |
| Teacher | Live teacher | No live teacher; AI grades your writing and speaking |
| Level | The group's level | A level test finds yours |
Karvon has no live teacher, and we say so plainly. If you need to talk to a teacher in every lesson, a language centre suits you better. If you want to study on your own schedule, in order, for less money, an online platform is easier.
How to pick a good online course
- Is there a level test? Starting too easy or too hard wastes time.
- Is every exercise checked? You should see your mistakes right away.
- Are writing and speaking graded? Multiple-choice alone won't teach you to speak.
- Is grammar explained in your language? At low levels, English-only explanations are hard to follow.
- Can you try it before paying?

Common questions
Is an online course better than a language centre?
It depends on you. Online saves time and travel and lets you go at your own pace. A centre gives you a live teacher and group speaking. Many people use both.
Does Karvon have teachers?
No live teachers. Lessons are in a fixed order, exercises are checked automatically, and AI grades essays and Speaking answers.
Can I study on my phone?
Yes. Karvon runs in the browser on phones and computers. There is nothing to install.
How much does it cost?
The first day is free. Then you choose a monthly plan — prices are on the Pricing page.
