Learning English from zero, step by step
Starting English from zero is not hard if you go in the right order: the most useful words and simple sentences first, then grammar, then speaking and writing. This page explains how to start and what to do each day.
Five rules for complete beginners
- A little every day. 20–30 minutes a day beats 3 hours once a week.
- Learn words inside sentences. A whole sentence is easier to remember than a single word.
- Listen and repeat. Hear each sentence, then say it out loud.
- Learn grammar when you need it: to be, the Present Simple and questions first.
- Don't be afraid of mistakes. Start speaking on day one.
Levels: Pre-A1 to C2
Language level is measured on the international CEFR scale. A complete beginner starts at Pre-A1.
| Level | What you can do |
|---|---|
| Pre-A1 | Greetings, numbers, the simplest words and phrases. |
| A1 | Simple sentences about yourself, your family and your day. |
| A2 | Short conversations in a shop, on the road, at work; the past tense. |
| B1 | Talk about many topics and understand simple texts. |
| B2 | Give opinions on complex topics; roughly IELTS 6.0–6.5. |
| C1 | Use English freely for study and work; roughly IELTS 7.0–8.0. |
| C2 | Close to a native speaker; IELTS 8.5–9.0. |
How you learn on Karvon
- A level test decides where you start. From zero, that is Pre-A1.
- Each lesson has one theme: new words, one grammar point, a text, speaking and writing.
- Every word has a translation, an example sentence and a reading hint.
- Grammar is explained in Uzbek or Russian, including how English differs from your language and the mistakes learners really make.
- Score 70% in the exercises and the next lesson opens, so nothing gets skipped.
- Words you learn come back for review, so you don't forget them.
The biggest risk when starting from zero is stopping too early. Take one small step every day — one lesson or ten minutes of review — rather than one big session.
