Privacy Policy

This page explains, in plain language, what data we collect, why we use it, and how we protect it.

1. Who processes your data

Your data is processed by Karvon LLC. Contact: the contact form on the site (/contact) or karvon.app@gmail.com.

2. What we collect

  • Account data: phone number or Google email, name, city, target band, exam date, profile photo (if you upload one).
  • Learning data: your essays, test answers, voice recordings, and the AI bands and comments produced from them.
  • Technical data: device and browser type, approximate location (from IP), page-usage statistics, error reports.

3. Why we use it

  • to give you scores, feedback and personal recommendations;
  • to store and display your progress (streak, stats, charts);
  • to send reminders and the weekly summary (you can turn these off at any time);
  • to find bugs, keep the service secure, and improve it.

4. AI processing and cross-border transfer

To grade your work, your essays, answers and audio are sent to AI providers: text analysis to Anthropic (USA), speech-to-text and text-to-speech to OpenAI (USA).

That means this data is transferred to the United States. You give separate consent to this at sign-up; if you withdraw it, AI grading features become unavailable.

These providers do not use your data to train their models.

5. Where data is stored, and for how long

  • The main database and files live in Supabase, on EU servers (Frankfurt).
  • Speaking practice recordings are deleted automatically after 7 days; the transcript and band are kept.
  • Account and learning data are kept until you ask us to delete your account.

6. Who we share it with

We do not sell your data. We use these providers to run the service:

  • Supabase — database, auth, file storage (EU);
  • Vercel — site hosting;
  • Anthropic, OpenAI — AI grading, transcription, speech;
  • Twilio — SMS codes; Resend — email;
  • PostHog — usage analytics; Sentry — error reports.

7. What other students can see

Normally, nothing. Your name, bands, essays and recordings are visible only to you.

There is one exception: the weekly leaderboard. You are on it only if you join it yourself — it is off by default. Once you have joined, other signed-in students see the nickname you chose and how many points you earned this week; your name, email address and IELTS band are not shown. You can leave at any time, and leaving deletes the nickname too.

8. Cookies

Necessary cookies: your login session and your language choice (NEXT_LOCALE). When analytics is enabled, PostHog sets one cookie that measures page usage only. No advertising cookies. The full list is on /cookies.

9. Your rights

Requests: the contact form on the site (/contact) or karvon.app@gmail.com. We respond within 30 days.

  • view and correct your data — on your Account page;
  • delete your account and all related data yourself — via “Delete account permanently” on your Account page;
  • opt out of emails — via the link in any email or in your account settings;
  • withdraw your consent to AI processing;
  • leave the leaderboard at any time — on the Leaderboard page.

10. Security

All data travels over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). In the database each user can read only their own rows (row-level security), and audio files are kept in a private bucket.

11. Children

The service is intended for users aged 16 and over. Younger users may use it with a parent's consent.

12. Changes

If this policy changes, we publish the new version here and update the date. We email you about material changes.
